In India, people mostly depend on the private health facilities that lead them towards poverty. Dr K Srinath Reddy, President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) spoke to OneWorld South Asia about the outcomes of a high-level government panel that laid out a roadmap for universal health coverage including the supply of free drugs to patients. He also spoke about the plan government to set up a central procurement agency for procurement of generic drugs. Dr Reddy also spoke about the issue of tobacco consumption – a subject closed to his heart.
