KVK Pravara CR

<p>KVK Pravara Community Radioemphasises on agricultural development while also giving due emphasis on rural development, health, education and rural culture.<br />The Community Radio strives to improve the socio-economic condition of the rural people with a focus on r focused clients are rural women and rural youths.</p>

<p>The Pravara Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), a small institute reaching the entire population of the region, was established in Ahmednagar in 1993. TheKVK initially adopted the group approach so that it could reach the maximum number of people. However, technology-related challenges and information support to this huge population was also an issue. The Community Radio was an initiative to bridge the communication gap with use of Information Communication Technology (ICT).</p>

The CRS KVK Pravara, established three years ago, broadcasts for four hours daily between 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm (repeat broadcast) and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm (regular broadcast).

<p>Community Participation: KVK has developed special course for developingradio jockeysby training young people from the surrounding areas. The participants are selected after careful screening and after their training, they are sent out to the villages and producing different programmes in different formats. Innovations in Format: Talks with scientists of KVK on emerging problems and talk with the successful agripreneurs, hero of the week, discussion on the bunds of farms, are some popular formats the KVK Pravara station has adopted in the production of its programmes. Over 80 per cent of the radio formats are of interactive and participatory which are liked by the listeners. We also conduct phone-in live programme of 90 min duration weekly which is interactive and participatory.</p>

<p>Funding and Partnerships For infrastructure development, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India under ATMA programme provided fund. Similarly funds were provided by the Government of India&rsquo;s ATMA programme in 2008 for development of content duringthe initial three years. At present, partial fund raising is done through advertisements.</p>

<p><strong>Core Teaml:</strong><br />Every person in the radio station is the now an expert in the collection and production of the content, related to various issues of the community.</p> <p><strong>CRMC Members:</strong><br />To involve different rural community and the institutes, one Management Committee is being constituted where farmers, rural youths, women representatives, representatives from various local departments and institutions are the members. The Head of KVK is chairing this committee with Manager of Community Radio Station as Member Secretary.</p>
