Every year, May 3rd is celebrated as International Press Freedom Day. This day aims to evaluate press freedom around the world, defend media from attacks on their independence and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in exercise of their profession.

Jyotirgayama Radio salutes workers on the occassion of International Workers' Day through a radio drama, Salaam Mazdoor. Workers play an important role in the growth and development of the country but often remain ignored when it comes to rights and entitlements. These are people who work hard to make a nation move. May 1 is celebrated as 'International Workers’ Day'. This day is also known as Labour Day and May Day.
In order to give a new lease of life to the age old tradition of story telling in India, young members of the community are invited to PU Radio to narrate stories for young audiences. This has led to community participation and popularity of the radio station amongst young children. Tanmay Singh narrates the popular story of the hare and tortoise where the tortoise wins the race. The moral of this story is that slow and steady wins the race.
Radio Jyotirgamya celebrates 'Earth Hour' which is becoming more important each passing day. In our culture, Earth is treated like a mother; we are celebrating this day as a thanksgiving. This campaign encourages people to be a part of this noble cause of saving the earth, which is slowly getting polluted. Switch off electric equipments and lights that are not necessary. 'Save Electricity, Save Future' and keep listening to Radio Jyotirgamaya "PADHO AUR PADHAO."

<p style="text-align: justify;">The aim of setting up the Jyotirgamaya Community Radio Station is to impart knowledge and information related to education, health and environment, social, cultural and local issues and to provide a platform for dialogue and discussion amongst the community members, students and faculty.</p>
<p>Jyotirgamaya was set up to serve as a change agent, transcending social, economic and cultural barriers within the community which would comprise of 22 nearby villages and eight villages adopted by the Punjab University.</p>

<p>Signature Programme: Hamari Beti, Shiksha Keanek Ayaam, Ek Kahaani and Hamara Samaaj. Hamari Beti is a new programme that addresses issues of female foeticide,dowry, domestic violence, physical and mental abuse that are discussed on this show. Stories of grit and determination of brave women are broadcast through this programme.</p>
<p>Funding and Partnerships The radio station is sustained on the budget allocated by Punjab University. Besides, though the university has made provision of payment to outsiders who want to participate in programme production, yet Jyotirgamaya Community Radio has brought out the best of voluntarism from the community.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Through the creation of awareness on education, culture, society and health, Jyotirgamaya Community Radio leaves a positive impact as it is a community-run, non-profit organization.</p>
